About Koh-I-Noor hand-crafted products
An amazing story of tradition
Tradition, understood as the ability to pass down from generation to generation a whole range of experience, skills and techniques, is probably the most important capital a company has. Indeed, tradition knows how to translate punctually into prestige and quality. KOH-I-NOOR products boast centuries of experience and tradition.
Already in 1730 brushes were being manufactured in Bratislava (Today's capital of Slovakia, but Austrian-Hungarian empire at the time) by the company BĂźrstenfabrik GrĂźneberg. Brushes and toothbrushes were being manufactured by hand with handles of ox bone and natural bristles. Thanks to the inventiveness of Wilhelm GrĂźneberg machines to automate this work were developed in the XIX century.Cellulose acetate was a revolution: it was the first plastic material. Toothbrushes made with it were given a name synonymous with beauty, uniqueness, and perfection: KOH-I-NOOR, like the famous 191-carat diamond brought from India to the crown of England in those years.
In 1943, during the tumultuous times of WWII, the technology and designs were acquired by Carlo Scavini, its Italian distributor since 1930, and moved to Tradate, a town in the north of Italy between lake Como and Milan.
For nearly 100 years now, KOH-I-NOOR has been a reference in the world of beauty accessories and personal care. The company name in Persian means "Mountain of light", and it is precisely light, with its reflections, that has always characterized each of our products and the work of our Italian artisans, who are committed every day to taking care of its quality in every single detail. A commitment that has continued since 1930 and has enabled us to obtain the recognition of Italian Historical Brand.
